Biography

Olympian Andrew Newell is a top ranked cross-country skier in the US and is ranked top five in the world on the FIS sprint points list. Andrew offers cross country skiing a fresh face, and a chance to bring home an Olympic medal in the sport.

Newell attended the 2006 Olympics in Torino, Italy where he competed in both the Sprint and Sprint Relay. Later that year, he scored the first World Cup podium for US Nordic skiing in 23 years. In 2008, Andrew went on to earn a second medal, silver, at the World Cup in Finland. As Vancouver approaches, Andrew is confident in his skills as a world class skiier.

Young Skiier

Andrew took up the sport of skiing at the young age of three. He participated in cross country ski programs, and attended the Stratton Mountain School, a ski academy known for its coaches and rigorous program. While most skiiers choose to attend college before pursing a career in the sport, Andrew decided against college in favor of moving to Park City, Utah to train full time with, then Development Coach Chris Grover, and the rest of the US Ski Team crew. For the next three seasons Newell remained in Park City and the Development team.

Filmmaker Extraordinaire

In 2003, Andrew produced his first of three ski films, Generation X-Ski, which was filmed to inspire young skiiers to participate in the sport.Outside of skiing Andrew produces ski films (see xskifilms.com), chases waves in the spring time- always looking for surf, skateboards and hangs out with his friends in the VTM.
