Personal
Adam comes from a family of swimmers, including his
father, James, who swam at the University of Cincinnati
and his mother, Susan, who was a high school state champion
in Kentucky. Three of his uncles also swam collegiately.
Worried her first born would burn out on swimming if
they started him too early, Susan wanted to wait until
Adam was older until he started swimming. But dad snuck
out and signed up Adam and his brother in summer league
when Adam was 8. Given his success and definite lack
of burnout, it’s safe to assume Susan forgave her husband
years ago. It helped that Adam was a well-rounded athlete
as a youngster, playing basketball, soccer and baseball
before narrowing his focus to swimming by high school.
He has a younger brother, Kyle, and younger sister, Erin. |
